In short

Shopify Editions Fall 2026 is Shopify's latest product release, and its main theme is selling through AI: checkout inside Google AI Mode, the Gemini app and more AI agents, plus a Sidekick that applies changes for you. It also adds scheduled rollouts for launches, new checkout fields, Shop sign-in for Klaviyo forms, cleaner analytics and stronger fraud protection.

The Shopify Editions Fall 2026 release is mostly about one shift: shoppers buying from your store without ever opening it. Checkout now runs inside Google AI Mode, the Gemini app and a growing list of AI agents, and Sidekick has moved from suggesting changes to making them. Around that sit practical upgrades to launches, checkout, analytics and fraud protection. We went through the full Shopify Fall '26 Edition and picked the 12 updates that matter most for growing brands, with what we would do about each.

Selling through AI agents

This is the headline of Shopify Editions Fall 2026, and the part with the most direct revenue impact.

1. Checkout inside Google AI Mode and Gemini

Brands can now sell in Google Search, including AI Mode, and in the Gemini app, with checkout powered by Shopify. The shopper buys in the chat and the order lands in your admin like any other. For brands that already rank well, this turns AI answers into a sales channel rather than a traffic leak.

2. Shop Pay in more AI agents

Customers can discover products, approve purchases and check out with Shop Pay in Muse, Claude Duet, Grok Bot and Instinct. Shopify adds that purchases are supported by Mastercard and Visa, with Amex coming soon. There is also a Shop skill that lets ChatGPT, Claude and other agents find products and check out with Shop Pay.

3. Shopify Catalog and the facts agents see

Two quieter updates are worth doing first. You can now check whether your store is eligible for Shopify Catalog and see what to change to qualify, and you can review and approve the facts shared with agents, including your policies and FAQs. Agents also receive your compare-at price, so markdowns show without extra setup. This is where generative engine optimisation starts: clean, complete product data is what agents can recommend.

4. Run your store from the AI assistant you already use

Merchants can now connect their store to Google Gemini, Meta's Muse, Microsoft Copilot and Grok and manage it from the chat, from products and inventory to orders and discounts depending on the assistant. In ChatGPT, Shopify can be pinned to the sidebar to see sales, sessions and conversion rate.

Sidekick and store design

Sidekick, Shopify's AI assistant, gets the biggest upgrade of the release.

5. Sidekick makes the changes, not just suggestions

You make a plan, approve once, and Sidekick applies several changes at a time, such as editing descriptions across every product in a collection. It can also create and edit draft orders, answer pricing and payout questions, and work in the checkout editor. Markdown files can teach it how your theme is built so your design preferences carry across conversations.

6. Recommendations tested with SimGym

Sidekick now proposes store improvements that it has tested using SimGym simulations, and you choose which to apply. You can also set a shopping goal for a SimGym run and see where on the store each recommendation applies.

7. Design the whole store in Canvas

Canvas lets you design your entire store in one view, zoom into any detail and work with Sidekick on a custom design. Canvas also works inside AI agents such as ChatGPT and Claude. For brands on a bespoke theme, we would still treat Sidekick's design edits as drafts to review rather than changes to publish directly.

Launches and checkout

8. Rollouts for launches, events and tests

You can now create and schedule a launch, event or experiment that bundles your theme, checkout configuration, catalogs and discounts into one rollout. Price and publishing changes can be scheduled as catalogs, rolled out across markets and rolled back automatically when the promotion ends. Ahead of Black Friday, this removes the late-night manual switch back.

9. Checkout fields, tiled payments and a thank-you moment

Three checkout updates are rolling out soon: custom fields such as delivery instructions or gift messages, a tiled layout for payment methods that replaces the radio buttons, and an animated celebration on the thank-you page. Shopify also lists a tighter, stacked form layout and Apple Pay in other browsers through a QR code as coming soon. Each of these is worth an A/B test once it reaches your store, which is where a Shopify CRO audit earns its keep.

Customers, marketing and analytics

10. Shop sign-in connected to Klaviyo

Shop sign-in can now connect to your lead capture form through Shopify Forms or Klaviyo, so verified customers are identified earlier in their journey. Unused discount codes from those forms also appear in the shopper's Shop account. If your list grows through Klaviyo email marketing, this is one of the easiest wins in the release.

11. Cleaner marketing and analytics data

Unified marketing reports separate traffic sources with fewer misattributions. Sessions in analytics now use smart bot filtering and consent-aware visit counting, so they reflect human visitors more accurately. You can add your own annotations to reports, bring app events like emails sent into analytics, and group results by category metafields such as colour or material. Your session numbers may look different as a result, so annotate the date you notice it.

Payments and protection

12. Shopify Protect for fraud and disputes

The Shopify Protect app is set to block fraud before it becomes an order, write AI-generated responses for chargebacks and let you set custom fraud rules, with features rolling out soon. Shopify also attaches carrier proof of delivery to "item not received" disputes automatically.

What we would do first

You do not need all 12 at once. For most brands, this is the order we would take them in:

  1. Check Shopify Catalog eligibility and review the facts Shopify shares with agents. It is the quickest way to see where you stand for the AI channels above.
  2. Build your Black Friday changes as a rollout, so the switch back happens on its own.
  3. Connect Shop sign-in to your Klaviyo sign-up forms.
